Mr. T, Church, Mother's Day, and Social Justice

What could these four things have in common?

shown @ the highway community- my church and employer in honor of mother's day today. we showed it to intro mother's day- how we weren't going to buy flowers or some crappy gift for mothers today- but rather use the money to donate to New Creation Home ( http://www.newcreationhome.org )- a teen mom's home in East Palo Alto- which I think its a much better way to use money. Sorry Mom's who like flowers- it also just avoided the drama of flowers... and i think a good way for our community to share what we have with others.

anyways, one of the small things I love about our church- that these four things could be combined in one fell swoop.

Oh, we also used an over dubbed scene from the Godfather- but that's another post...

Songs that Make Jeremy's Head Nod: 4000 Miles

My friend Jeremy is a friend of mine who is for me a sort of Groove Thermometer. I often have big card games at my place, and I usually have some mix of music going on in the background. If Jeremy, whose attention is very much on the game, is nodding his head to the beat, i know its a good groove.

When this song comes on, he's turns into a Bobblehead version of himself.

Speaking of which, that'd be pretty fun (and probably $$) to make...

Enjoy.

Scott Beowulf

May is National Bike Month, and as part of that, I put together Team Scott Beowulf. 511.org is putting on a team challenge, where people can put together teams of 2-5, and get points for biking instead of driving. The team name is a dave eggers reference that Ryan (part of the team) has always wanted as a team name. So cheer us on!

Also, May 15th is bike to work day. On that day ther will be a ton of "energizer stations" with food, coffee, giveaways for bikers. See http://www.bayareabikes.org/btwd/index.php?page=energizer.php to find one near you.

So go ride a bike! Its really awesome. My wife amy has been a bike / train commuter for some time now and I've started doing it more and more this past year. There comes a point where you fall in love with biking, I'm grumpy now anytime I have to drive! Get some exersize, get outside, and help reduce our gas consumption. Gas is almost $4 a gallon here, so its a money saver too.

Happy Trails.

Family, Blog Readers of the World:

This is my first blog post on this new site posterous, which my friend garry is getting going.  Should be cool. I'll put up random things here, mp3's links, pictures, whatever.... i still have grand ambitions for a food blog about things amy and i have made, a real mp3 blog, etc, etc.... but this is a start.  Thanks garry for getting this going and getting my butt into gear, good luck with this!

Your friend and blog writer:

Steve Joh
